Quick Info

Difficulty: Novice

Length: Very Short

Start: Fred the Farmer north of Lumbridge Castle.

Main danger: None (just avoid accidentally attacking rams).

Useful travel: Lumbridge teleport or home teleport.

Required Items

  • 20 unnoted balls of wool
  • Shears (optional - Fred will give you a pair if you don't have any)

Walkthrough

  1. Talk to Fred the Farmer at his farm north of Lumbridge Castle. Ask about a quest and agree to bring him 20 balls of wool. He will give you shears if you don't already have any. Note: if you already have 20 balls of wool in your inventory, you can give them to Fred without shearing any sheep to complete the quest!

  1. Enter the sheep pen connected to the east side of his house. Use the shears on the normal sheep to collect wool. Avoid the rams with horns and the special sheep called "The Thing".
  2. Take the wool to the spinning wheel on the upper floor of Lumbridge Castle (south bedroom). Spin all 20 pieces of wool into balls.
  3. Return to Fred the Farmer with the 20 unnoted balls of wool and hand them over to complete the quest.

Shearing and Spinning

Important: You can only shear regular sheep. Rams with horns cannot be sheared. "The Thing" is a disguised pair of penguins - it has a "Talk to" option and will squeak and run if you try to shear it.

Shearing: Click "Shear" on a sheep or use shears on it. Wool drops as items. Sheep regrow wool after about a minute.
Spinning: Use the spinning wheel in Lumbridge Castle. Each piece of wool becomes one ball of wool. You get extra Crafting XP for doing this yourself.
Fastest method: Simply buy 20 balls of wool from the Grand Exchange and deliver them directly to Fred - no shearing or spinning needed.

Completing the Quest

  1. Hand over the 20 unnoted balls of wool to Fred the Farmer.
  2. The quest will complete automatically once he accepts them.

Rewards

  • 1 Quest Point
  • 150 Crafting experience (plus an extra 50 if you spun the wool yourself)
  • 60 coins

Tips

  • Buy the 20 balls of wool from the Grand Exchange for the absolute fastest completion.
  • If spinning yourself, set your attack options to "Hidden" to avoid accidentally attacking rams.
  • Sheep regrow their wool after about one minute, so you can keep shearing the same ones.
  • "The Thing" in the pen is harmless - it just squeaks and runs if you try to shear it.
  • This is one of the fastest quests in the game if you already have the balls of wool ready.
  • Fred will not accept noted balls of wool - they must be unnoted.
  • Doing this quest manually gives extra Crafting XP compared to buying the wool.
