The oh-so-satisfying feel of ripping packs. combined with a brand new way to play Old School? Yes please!

Once again, we have been absolutely astounded by the creativity from our community, and there's no greater example of this than the latest RuneLite plugin to hit the proverbial shelves. If you've not caught wind of the OSRS TCG plugin yet, settle in because you're in for a treat!

Created by plugin developer Az, this plugin introduces over 6,300 unique Old School RuneScape cards, which you can collect by earning credits through game activity and exchanging them for card packs. There's even the chance to snag yourself a shiny! Like all good trading card games, you have two types of fans; those who like to simply collect and hoard them in their collection, and those who like to use them to play. While you won't be battling it out with your friends trying to steal their coveted holo, a new game mode has exploded onto the scene that has your account locked behind card pulls!

We'll go into more on that in a moment, but first, let's get comfy with the OSRS TCG plugin!

How It Works

The OSRS TCG plugin adds literally thousands of OSRS trading cards to the game. These come in packs of five, and you can get your hand on these packs by handing over Credits. You'll stack up Credits through earning XP, levelling up or killing monsters. These Credits can be exchanged for card packs - one card pack is 2,500 Credits which means you'll be opening them in no time!

When you get your card pack, you'll pull five cards, each shown face down, and you get the joy of flipping them over one by one to see what you got. If RNG luck is on your side, you might flip a card that has an added sparkle - these are your foil cards, your sought after holographics that will have you itching for a protective sleeve! Don't worry though, all your cards, shiny or not, will be kept stored and tracked by the plugin, safe and sound, no chance for scuffs and bent corners.

You can rack up Credits pretty easily when playing as purely a collector:

  • Earn XP - every 1,000xp earned in non-combat skills will get you 100 Credits.
  • Levelling up a skill will net you Credits, the amount scales from 1 - 99.
  • Defeating monsters or attackable NPCs - you'll gain Credits equal to the NPC's combat level. So if you pick a fight with a Varrock guard you'll net yourself 21 Credits, but go head to head with Nex and you'll be rolling in it with a sweet 1,001 Credits!

This is tracked by the plugin itself, so all you need to do is install the plugin and grind your way across Gielinor. And if you're really lucky, you'll enter the upper echelon and open a god pack... you'll know if you get one of those.

TCG Locked

Alright, collecting is awesome, but what about having it interact with your actual gameplay?

Bronzeman TCG, developed by Felmeme is the perfect partner plugin that turns the OSRS TCG into a scalable game mode that can be as restrictive as you like! This is a card-collection challenge mode that locks almost everything in the game until you pull the matching card. The plugin reads your card collection straight from the OSRS TCG plugin and sets your restrictions. Everything is toggleable though, so you can make your life as easy or as hard as you like.

Here's what you can restrict:

  • Combat: attacking an NPC, including casting spells and using items is blocked until you pull its card.
  • Loot: collecting a ground item needs its card. The plugin features a configurable exempt list to really control the finer details.
  • Items: equipping locked items can be blocked, with multiple granular configurations available.
  • Processing skills: firemaking, smelting, smithing, crafting, enchanting, fletching and herblore recipes require cards.
  • Gathering: woodcutting, mining, fishing, and cooking raw food.
  • Thieving: pickpocketing needs the loot cards, or in NPC + Loot mode the target's own card too.
    • Master Farmer has his own dial, including an Insanity mode requiring all 45 seed cards on his table!
  • Hunter: birds, butterflies, implings, chinchompas, salamanders and pitfalls need their gear cards.
    • An Extreme Hunter option locks each rumour master until you own every creature card they can assign.
  • Slayer: optionally require each master's own card, and/or every card of the monsters they can assign, before using them.
  • Runecrafting and Farming: altars need essence and talismans/tiaras and optionally the rune card. Framing patches need tools, seeds and optionally the produce card at planting time; compost bins need a compost card.
  • Sailing: hull and keel upgrades need their part cards, and salvaging each shipwreck tier needs its salvage card.

As you can see, pretty much everything has been covered, and with this many potential combinations, the possibilities are endless!

Now make it Hardcore

This is where Faux and SoupRS came to play. Never ones to shy away from a challenge, they have devised the ultimate hard mode for OSRS TCG plugin players - Cardcore mode!

Cardcore mode combines Hardcore Ironman with the a suite of TCG locked toggles on, making for one seriously intense grind!

Both Faux and SoupRS have already launched their new Cardcore series!

Faux

SoupRS

We will be avidly following both these series, will they keep their Hardcore status? We'll see if RNG is on their sides! Time to have faith in the heart of the cards...

How To Play

Fancy taking on a Cardcore yourself? Here are the rules:

  • Earn credits by gaining experience, leveling, or killing NPCs
  • Spend credits to open card packs
  • Can only use items that you have a card for
  • Can only attack NPCs that you have a card for
  • No limitations on talking to NPCS
  • Quests require all required items to be unlocked. If an NPC fight occurs, you must have that NPC unlocked if the card exists
  • Content that doesn't have an associated card is assumed unlocked
  • Foil item unlocks all items including and below that card tier (example: Foil Mithril axe also unlocks Bronze to Black axe, but not Adamant+)
  • Foil boss unlocks all unique collection logs of that boss (example: Foil General Graardor unlocks all Bandos armor, Bandos hilt, shards)
  • Foil items on a case by case basis unlock horizontally instead of vertically (Foil God D'hide shield unlocks other God D'hide shields, but not all tiers below)

While this is the core ruleset, much like any self-imposed restrictions, they can be as flexible as the player wishes them to be. It's all about a good time after all!

Flex your pulls

Frankly where's the joy in pulling a shiny card and not being able to brag about it to anyone who'll listen? Well, we've created a brand new channel in our Official Discord, #tcg-locked, where you can show off your shinies, bemoan your unlucky unlocks and share your OSRS TCG journey. Whether you're a casual player wanting to share your haul, a dedicated collector looking to get your hands on all 6,300 cards, or you're challenging yourself to a whole new locked-game mode grind, this is the channel for you.

If you'd like a whole Discord dedicated to pulling rares or just general advice, then check out the OSRS TCG Discord, the main place to get the latest updates on both plugins!

Plus, we're thoroughly obsessed ourselves, so you may spot a JMod or two popping in to share their own collections.

A Word From The Dev

A huge congratulations to Az, the developer behind the OSRS TCG plugin, and we can't wait to see what more he has in store. He had a few words to share with everyone:

Thank you to everyone who's participated in the beta of OSRS TCG so far and helped me shape it's future.

It's been amazing to see all the creative ways you've found to enjoy the plugin and I'm very happy to hear the plugin has made some of your skilling grinds a little less soul-crushing!

Speaking of the Beta, Az is hard at work on the full release but was also kind enough to offer us a small preview of what he's been currently working on.

And that's just a small taste of what you can expect with the full release! Until then, good luck to SoupRS and Faux, and anyone else taking on Cardcore mode, and get sharing your W card pulls in our Discord!

Remember that to get hold of these plugins yourself, you simply need to download OSRS TCG and TCG Locked (if you want the restrictions), from the RuneLite Plugin Hub!
